CUBICIBUC - Barcelona

Arrange a one-to-one meeting with CUBICIBUC to discuss SEPs and FRAND licensing @ MWC2023.

CUBICIBUC continues to support a range of clients with issues relating to patents and technology licensing in the mobile space specialising in SEPs and FRAND licensing matters.

As connectivity brings value to many sectors such as automotive, IoT and industrial automation. However, embedding connectivity into a product opens the door to claims of patent infringement of wireless standard essential patents.

The regulatory environment for patents is changing, as are approaches to licensing and issues of FRAND and royalty setting. Organisations adopting connected solutions should embrace the technology with the right IP strategy plans in place to manage the potential IP risks.

Increasingly patent holders need to demonstrate that they are acting as a willing licensor, and as a good “IP citizen”. Within the context of Standards Essential Patents this typically means demonstrating that royalty demands and licensing approaches are FRAND. However there remains limited guidance on FRAND, and it is a topic that the courts continue to refine.

Cubicibuc’s licensing model has been developed to allow licensors to explore scenarios and options for licensing in order to optimise the licensing approach. In particular our licensing model allows you to:

  • Understand the technical strengths and weaknesses of your patent portfolio against various scenarios
  • Optimise those scenarios to identify opportunities for licensing
  • Develop arguments to support FRAND licensing compliance

Cubicibuc’s Generalised FRAND Top-down model

This is particularly applicable for new sectors adopting communications such as automotive, IoT and robotics.

We have over 15 years’ experience in advising clients, and our team will be @ MWC in Barcelona in February/March 2023. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a one-to-one meeting to discuss issues of SEPs, and FRAND licensing.
